歌曲《Payphone》由魔力红乐队与来自匹兹堡的说唱歌手维兹·卡利法首次合作。2011年9月，《Payphone》这首歌曲作为给魔力红的一位粉丝Nguyen Quynh Mai的生日礼物而被创作了出来。
Benny Blanco当时想在魔力红的身上做出一个扭转，想给魔力红的歌加点嘻哈的元素。于是他找到了维兹·卡利法让他写了这首歌的Rap歌词。而《Overexposed》执行制片人马克斯·马丁负责调整了该歌曲的合唱部分。该首歌于2012年在美国洛杉矶的康韦录音室完成的录制。
