Reflections:
It is an absolute wonder that a novel written in 1847 remains popular so many generations after à the absolute art of human literature~~
I had initially thought to myself that by this point, after all these textbooks, college projects and research papers, my reading comprehension should have improved somewhat, at least to the point where I don’t need to look up the words anymore. I was wrong.
The truth was every few lines, I had to pause and look up some words in the dictionary. Many times I found myself reading and re-reading the lines trying to decipher their meanings.
There were also times when I found myself smiling between the lines. The way the author describes the exchanges between our withdrawing host, Mr Heathcliff (“the unmannerly wretch”), and the unexpected visitor, “I”, was hilarious.
Hope I can pick up the reading speed a bit, once I get used to the author’s writing style. This book will for sure prove to be a great read.
