Progress: 228
Summary / Reflections:
- Your genetic traits predispose you to a particular personality --> build habits that work for your personality
- --> pick a habit that is easy for you (don't choose the most popular habit, but the one that best suits you) --> play a game where the odds are in your favour --> more likely to be successful --> maintains your motivation & feelings of being successful --> enjoyable habits that sticks in the long run (continuous feedback cycle)
- Use the following question to narrow in on your habits:
- 1) what feels like fun to me, but work to others? e.g. you handle the pain of the task much easier than most people; you are enjoying yourself while other people are complaining
- 2) what makes me lose track of time? e.g. you enter into the flow state, where you are focused on the task at hand & the rest of the world fades away
- 3) where do I get greater returns than the average person? --> where do results come easier & faster for me than others?
- 4) what comes naturally to me?
- Ask: what feels natural to me? when have I felt alive? --> whenever you feel authentic & genuine, you are headed in the right direction
- If you can't find a game that works in your favour, create one! (e.g. author created his own major)
- if you can't win by being better, you win by being different. E.g. combine your skills --> reduced level of competition --> makes it easier for you to stand out
- specialization: --> the more you master a skill, the harder it is for others to compete with you (e.g. be the best bilingual ER/ICU nurse)
- In summary:
- - Genes do NOT eliminate the need for hard work, they clarify it --> tells us what to work hard on
- - realize your strengths & know where to spend your time & energy
- put in the same efforts before attributing other's success as luck
- The best way to ensure your habits remain satisfying in the long run:
- - pick behaviours that align with your personality & skills
- - work hard on things that come easy
To-do:
reflect on your strengths and weaknesses, adjust and build up your habits accordingly
